These two make it SO easy!

A few months ago, an e-mail landed in my inbox entreating me to 'score' my garden for wildlife. It's not really my thing but in an effort to suss out every single native plant related lead I come across, I took the test! I am so glad I did because the follow-up email included a link to this free on-line workshop "Design Your Yard" ... and it's all about the natives.
Whether you are new to gardening or are many years in, I think you will find this worthwhile. All you need is a pad of paper and pencil. If you have a site plan or aerial photo of your lot you can draw on, all the better. Looking for your lot? You can go to google maps, enter your address and click on satellite view in the lower left hand corner as a start. Many jurisdictions have on-line property maps available too.
Zoe Evans, of Wildr and a master naturalist, and Heather Evans, of Design Your Wild and a master gardener, make it so easy. The on-demand workshop takes 90 minutes. There are a couple of places where the mother daughter duo give you time to think and draw. Truly, there are no special skills needed here. You will soon be designing your garden with native plants. Watch the workshop here.
It's all about creating an overall design plan so that when you are ready to plant, you will have a big picture plan you are working toward. Why do we need a plan we are working towards? So that we create outdoor spaces that work for us, our individual life styles and nature. Kudos to Wild Ones who hosted the workshop!
Just as I was putting the finishing touches on this post, I received an e-mail from Homegrown National Park promoting another opportunity to hear from Zoe and Heather in a webinar entitled "Yardenalities" about finding the garden design style that resonates with you. It sounds like the perfect follow-up to "Design Your Yard." You can register here.
If you missed these earlier posts, here are a few more on design.
Now, about that scoring process. I scored a 75, categorized as "growing strong" I could see it as growing strong or a solid 'C'. Either way, as we all know, there is always more to do in one's garden! If you want to score your garden click here.
I hope you have some time to cozy up and ponder the coming year's garden!
Happy Gardening.
